My Desktop Life is a new online software which mixes web content (texts, images, sounds and animated effects)
for narrative purposes, based on the theme of mental flow of consciousness.
A concept by Martine Neddam and programmed by James Hudson.
Compositions Voice and Mental Space were created with this software.
They run on the browser (for now optimized for Safari), but they aslo exist as screen captures.
See them here.
This is Home is the longest composition created with this software (7:47 min). It reflects on the inner voices
entering an interior dialogue with one’s own consciousness when staring at the screen and daydreaming.

Martine Neddam is a visual artist who has been working with internet virtual characters who lead an autonomous
artistic existence in which the real author remains invisible. She has been exploring anonymously the concept
of online identity through virtual characters such as
Mouchette,
David Still,
XiaoQian, and the shared interface
virtualperson.net. With MyDekstoplife she continues investigating identity in a browser by
developing an original visual style and an inner voice.
Programming: Editor and player both run in a browser window using open standards and frameworks such as CSS,
jQuery, and Javascript. Read more
